My Freedom, Love, for You

By D. Suprina

Author's Note:
Someone I knew was searching for an Mrs. degree. I gave her a poem instead.

If I could fly like an Angel
If I could sing like a bird
If I could travel to far distant lands
If I could then I would

Up to the edge of the forest
To the horizon and then
To the next and the next one
'Till my queries all were fed

I'd land to sample the people
Their customs, their thoughts and their ways
I'd stay long enough to be sad to leave
But I'd leave then all the same

For never would I tire
For always there would be
Someone new for me to know
Somewhere far from me

Never would I settle
And never would I say
I'd rather stay would you, Love
And say farewell to wings

For always would I one day fly
My Freedom I would keep
And collect experiences and memories
In my eternal reap

I'd watch the fall of empire
and savor successful dreams
And witness triumphs and pains
Of mortals one by one

For if I were an Angel
And if I'd understood
I never would have traded
My Freedom, Love, for You
